Mike Bohn’s departure to Southern Cal is official.

The Cincinnati athletics director will be announced as the leader of the Trojans’ athletic department Thursday, multiple sources confirmed to The Enquirer. USC said it would be announcing a new athletic director Thursday, but did not name Bohn in its news release.

Thus ends a days-long back-and-forth of reports and speculation after news of Bohn to USC first hit last week and carried well past the expected date of his official announcement.

Bohn will replace Lynn Swann, who resigned in September after three years on the job.

The move also ends Bohn’s five-year tenure at Cincinnati, highlighted by hirings of football coach Luke Fickell, basketball coaches John Brannen and Michelle Clark-Heard and baseball coach Scott Googins. He also made hires in tennis, swimming and diving, dance and track and field.

UC began forming a search committee last week to hire Bohn’s replacement, planned to name an interim athletics director and aimed to make the full-time hire within “a couple months … to keep our recent success moving,” said a source with direct knowledge of the search process.
